Can i hit baseballs with a softball bat

Many older slow-pitch softball bats from the 's and 's were much heavier, weighing in between oz. Fast-pitch softball bats are generally lighter than slow-pitch softball bats, because the higher speed of the pitched ball means that the batter has less time to decide to commit to swing and must be able to swing the bat faster. One of the restrictions on bats, imposed by the NCAA to lower the performance of aluminum bats, is that the numerical value of the weight in ounces must be no more than three less than the numerical value of the length in inches.

So, a 33" baseball bat could have weights of 33oz, 32oz, 31oz, and 30oz, but not 29oz. In major league baseball, where players use only wood bats, the weight of the bat is only limited by the requirement that the bat be made entirely out of solid wood, and by the fact that the handle of the bat breaks if it is made too thin. Most major league players use bats that weigh ounces. Barrel Diameter After differences in length, the second most obvious difference is that the barrels of baseball bats are fatter than those of softball bats.

Youth bats have the same diameter as adult slow-pitch bats. Joined: Mar 4, Messages: Likes Received: 0. Okay, I searched and found nothing, and cringe posting this here after the maulings I've seen, but here goes: What effect does tee-work using baseballs have on a slow pitch bat?

When I go to the cages I like to hit a few rounds of baseballs with an old wood baseball bat and then my old high school bat. I've got a bunch of baseballs and just enjoy hitting them. I then move on to softballs. I got to thinking though, would hitting baseballs be effective for use in breaking in a softball bat? They are obviously smaller and weigh less, but the weight is concentrated and they are harder than a lot of the mush balls out there today.

Seems to me it would be GTG, but I might be missing something. I'm sure this has been discussed before, but humor me. Joined: Jun 3, Messages: 2, Likes Received: 0. Joined: Mar 22, Messages: 4, Likes Received: 0.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before! Dd has a hitting coach that only has baseballs, I've heard it's not good to hit baseballs with a softball bat?

Just wondering if it's true or myth. And if it is bad in bat, do you think it ok for me to bring a bucket of softballs and ask that they do lesson with those? Jan 9, I have always heard that hitting baseballs with a composite bat was a bad idea.
