It all depends on your storage requirements. You can always add more disk later if needed. SSD's don't just help boot times, they help with the general running speed too. You can run System Configuration to control what services startup. Be careful and make sure the service is not essential to the running of the machine or some program you use. You can choose selective startup and add more and more startup items until you identify what is causing the issue.

You used to be able to choose what programs start up in System Config but it has moved to task manager now. There is a link to where you need to be in the Startup tab of System Config.
